Produced through a licensed partnership between GAF Corporation and Walt Disney Productions, these Pana-Vue slide sets were sold in park souvenir shops and through mail-order catalogs across the 1970s and into later decades. They were the premium souvenir of their era — sharper than a postcard, more intimate than a guidebook illustration, and lit with the warm, saturated Kodachrome-era color that modern digital photography has never quite replicated.
Meet the Bears
The five slides in this set introduce a cross-section of the show's most beloved performers. The Five Bear Rugs — the hillbilly band that anchored so many of the attraction's rousing musical numbers — are captured here in all their shaggy, banjo-plucking glory. Gomer, the gentle giant at the upright piano, provided the show's tender heart; seeing him frozen mid-performance is a strangely moving thing for anyone who ever sat in the darkened theater and watched him play. The Sun Bonnet Trio — Bunny, Bubbles, and Beulah — brought an absurd sweetness to every appearance, their enormous bonnets framing faces of improbable earnestness.

A perpetually despondent, off-key crooner, Big Al became an unexpected cultural touchstone — the kind of character guests quoted to each other in line, bought plush versions of, and remembered decades later with inexplicable fondness. And finally Teddi Barra, the glamorous chanteuse who descended from the rafters in a gilded cage, all sequins and slow-burning charisma. She was the show's showstopper, and her slide in this set reflects that star power.
The Attraction Behind the Slides
Country Bear Jamboree opened at Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom in 1971 and made its Disneyland debut the same year, operating in the park's Bear Country area (later renamed Critter Country). It was one of the last major attractions personally championed by Walt Disney himself before his death in 1966, originally conceived as an anchor experience for a ski resort project that never materialized. That origin story — a Walt-era vision that outlived its creator — gives the attraction an emotional weight that most theme park rides simply don't carry.
For thirty years, the Disneyland version ran essentially unchanged, a remarkable run in an industry that perpetually chases the new. When it finally closed in 2001 to make way for The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh, the reaction from longtime guests was something close to grief. The attraction had become, for many families, a multigenerational ritual — grandparents who had seen it in 1972 brought grandchildren who would never get the chance.
